Oh, the days of fandoms! I feel so old whenever I mention Tumblr, but I really was a Tumblr girl. I’m not even exaggerating when I say I had four different Tumblr accounts, each one for a different purpose. I spent way too much time creating my blog page, and I spent so many hours of my day online.
Being part of a “fandom” was really a cultural experience. Today, I feel like the word is being used less and less every day. Just to reminisce (and also cringe) with my old self, I decided to do a little throwback today and talk about some of the old fandoms I used to be in.
Supernatural
When I think back to teenage me and my obsessions, the first thing that pops into my mind is Supernatural. When I tell you I was in love with Dean Winchester, I was IN LOVE.

I remember when I first watched Supernatural. I borrowed the season one DVDs (yeah, remember those!?) from my friend to binge-watch when I was sick. I was camped out in my downstairs living room for hours, and when I was done, I knew I had to watch it all.
At this point, there were only seven seasons of Supernatural out, but I hunkered down to watch all of them. I even bought the season DVDs during a Black Friday sale. I don’t remember the exact timing, but I know I watched the whole show (up to that point) in less than a month.
Since then, I have rewatched the show to try and finish it. I have never made it past season eight. While I still really love those first seasons (1-7), the show became a little too crazy for me to keep up with. Now that the show has ended, I might give it another shot, but until then, I have no pressuring urge to finish the show.
Doctor Who
I vividly remember finding this on Netflix one summer after I spent my week at music camp (it was for guitar, so can we really call it “band” camp!??). All of my music camp friends were talking about this nerdy, British TV show about a “doctor” in space. I remember thinking that it was one of the craziest, dumbest shows I have ever heard of.
Fast forward one or two weeks, and I turned on the first episode to see what the fuss was about. That was all it took for a full-blown obsession to begin. I remember being devastated that The Ninth Doctor was only a season, and I hated David Tennant (lol). Then, after I got over that, I realized David Tennant was actually brilliant, and he became my favorite doctor.
My mom (bless her soul) always supported my obsessions and hyper-fixations, and there is one gift that I will never forget: she ordered me a handmade, quilted Tardis blanket. I can’t find an exact image, but it looked something like this:

It was the coolest present ever, and I had it on my bed for almost five years (I don’t know where it went after college, but I have been wanting to dig around at my parent’s house to find it again).
David Tennant’s seasons are by far my favorite to this day, but I do not watch the show anymore. I didn’t mind Matt Smith, but after his seasons, I didn’t have the same love and passion as I used to.
I want to rewatch the show with my boyfriend since he’s never seen it, but I doubt we’ll try and finish the whole series. Really, I want him to experience the magic of David Tennant as The Doctor.
Sherlock
Does anyone remember the Superwholock fandom? Basically, I was part of that. In 2012, my Tumblr was filled with gifs from all three of those shows. However, Sherlock was probably my least favorite out of the three, simply because there weren’t as many episodes (and the wait for a new season felt like eons). I actually rewatched Sherlock during Covid with my boyfriend, but I definitely am not as obsessed with it as I used to be.
Marvel
This one hurts a little to put on this list. My love for Marvel stemmed from when my mom first brought me to Iron Man in 2008 (I was 11 at this time) and it was something I was obsessed with until very recently (I’d say my obsession died down after Endgame, but has really slowed since Multiverse of Madness. I’m not saying I hate Marvel now, but after the amount of movies in the MCU, it is hard to get as excited anymore.

I did watch all of the TV shows (Loki and Wandavision) were my favorite, but I don’t go out of my way to watch the movies anymore. I still haven’t seen Guardians of the Galaxy 3, the newest Black Panther, or The Marvels. I probably will one day, but I’m in no rush.
My Top 10 Marvel Characters:
- Ant-Man (ily Paul Rudd)
- Iron Man
- Wanda Maximoff
- Loki
- Bucky Barnes
- Black Widow
- Spider-Man
- Thor
- Captain America
- Doctor Strange
Glee
Oh boy, this one hurts even more because of how cringy the show is. Every time I see a clip on TikTok, I can’t help but remember that I used to love the show.
The worst part?? My friends and I used to LOVE Mr. Schuester 😅 Now that I am older (and also a teacher), my god, that man was so weird. I never watched the show in its entirety (I probably stopped around season four), but it is a show I don’t know if I can ever rewatch again (especially because of everything that has happened to the cast since).
My old favorite songs that used to be number one played on my iPod:
- Dream On ft. Neil Patrick Harris
- Born This Way
- Singing in the Rain / Umbrella
- Bohemian Rhapsody
- Marry You
- Total Eclipse of the Heart
- Cough Syrup
- Defying Gravity (this one makes me mad bc I now love Wicked so much)
It actually hurt to listen to some of these songs, so I think it’s safe to say I am no longer in love with this show. The only great thing this show brought me? My love for Jonathan Groff.

Those were all of the big ones, but here are some others I did love for some period of time:
- Teen Wolf
- American Horror Story (esp. seasons 1-4)
- Dr. Horrible’s Sing-a-long Blog
- One Direction (I was the BIGGEST 1D fan back in the day)
- Harry Potter
- The Hunger Games (although, I still reread the books every 2-3 years)
These were all of the fandoms I considered myself a huge part of. It was fun to think back on some of the things I have loved in the past, and how much my preferences have changed, even in recent years. Fandoms have changed a lot over the last decade, but there are some “fandoms” I am part of today. Look out for my post next week on the fandoms I am currently a part of!
What was a “fandom” that you were a part of back in the day?
Until next time, xx

Oh i am very much stil’ a tumblr girl 😂 4blogs too! (Main, animal crossing, zelda, and my bookblr)
I love that so much!! I really miss the days of Tumblr – I should try and log into some of my old accounts!
I’ve been a Tumblr girly since 2014, so a bit after what most people seem to think is the peak of the site. I’m still a Tumblr girly with two blogs (my main and my booklr) but I’ve definitely noticed it’s quieted down as the years have passed. That’s not saying *too* much, though, as it’s still quite a riot, and a hilariously strange one at that 😂 Weirdly I never got into any Tumblr fandoms other than bookish fandoms, but I do hear all about them and they sound quite interesting. If you enjoy the hilarity of Tumblr history, I definitely recommend the YouTube channel strangeaeons, which focuses on the weird, wacky, wonderful history of our favorite site lmao!
Thanks for the Youtube channel recommendation! I only have taken a look at it so far, but the videos seem so interesting… I’m probably going to binge some videos 😂 I really should try and gain access to my old accounts – it was such a huge part of my life at one point!!
