Happy Sunday everyone!
I can’t believe that it is already July tomorrow! I feel like this summer has been going way too quickly, especially because I haven’t been able to enjoy the warm weather as much as I would like to!
I started off the month of June so strong, but life got a little crazy over the last three weeks. Mostly, I have been fighting off a cold that just does not want to go away. It has made my motivation drop significantly, but thankfully, I am starting to feel much better. I am writing some blog posts today to try and get my schedule back on track!
While I wasn’t motivated to do much, I did get a lot of reading in while I was stuck at home. Since my last Sunday Post on June 9th, I have read 8 books. I am also in the middle of two books right now that I would like to finish today or tomorrow!
Last weekend, I had a reading weekend with one of my best friends from college. We ended up reading for only a few hours one night (we just had too much to catch up on 😂), but I did finish The First to Die at the End while I was visiting.
The Sunday Post is a blog news meme hosted @ Caffeinated Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week on your blog and showcase books and things we have received as well as share news about what is coming up on your blog for the week ahead.
Recently Finished
Books
Pageboy – I listened to this memoir on Libby. I do not rate memoirs, but overall, I am happy I borrowed this one. Elliot Page really dives into his past regarding his gender identity and sexuality, and I think it is an important story for anyone to read. My only negative to the memoir is that the stories jumped back and forth a lot, and it was sometimes hard to tell what time period we were in.
Gone for Good – This crime thriller was on my Netgalley backlist from 2022. It has been a while since I have read a crime drama, and I have realized that I tend to get more involved in police drama stories rather than when the “detective” is a civilian. I had a really fun time with this one, and I am interested in reading more of this series! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Not in Love – Ali Hazelwood’s newest book is SPICY. Wow. In the introduction, Hazelwood tells us that this book will cover more serious topics and will not be the same formula as her previous STEM novels. While I have mostly enjoyed her previous books (Love, Theoretically was my favorite book of April), I loved seeing her do something a little different. I think the spicy scenes were great, and I felt way more attached to the characters in this one than I have in the past from Hazelwood’s books. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫
Imogen, Obviously – This YA LGBTQ+ romance was adorable!! I had a great time reading this one. I literally couldn’t put it down and ended up staying awake until 4 am until I finished. It definitely wasn’t perfect, but I think the story is one some people can relate to. I will be adding this one to my classroom library. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Delilah Green Doesn’t Care – I have finally read a book from Ashley Herring Blake!! This book has made it onto countless TBR’s, and I still never picked it up before this month. I regret it so much! There were times when the main character’s annoyed me a little, but it was nothing extreme. I will be picking up more books from Blake in the future. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
are you listening? – This graphic novel was so beautiful. It had hints of magical realism throughout, but it follows the story of two gay women escaping from something in their hometown. Definitely check the trigger warnings for this one, but I highly recommend it. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫
The House Across the Lake – This book was sadly just plain boring. I feel like the alcoholic woman who is creeping on neighbors is so overdone at this point (I mean, there is literally a comedy on Netflix making fun of the concept). There was a “spin” to the story, but it was executed poorly. I said this was Riley Sager’s last chance, but it turns out I own one more book from him that I haven’t read. ⭐️⭐️
The First to Die at the End – While this book was not as strong as the first one, I still really enjoyed the story! Unsurprisingly, it also made me cry quite a bit too! I think the reason I didn’t enjoy this one as much as the first was because I was hoping to learn more about Death Cast. Because it didn’t, it felt too similar to the first book. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Movies
Mean Girls – My mom visited this past weekend and wanted to see the new Mean Girls musical. I had already seen it before, but I am a huge fan of the OG musical and Renee Rapp, so it was fun to watch again! ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫
IN PROGRESS
Books
Cleat Cute – I am 40% of the way through Cleat Cute, and I have been liking it so far! I have never read a soccer romance before, but this one has been fun.
Last Night at the Telegraph Club – I am only a couple chapters into this one, but based on the premise, I have high expectations for this one!
TV Shows
Acolyte – The boyfriend and I are all caught up with watching the newest Star Wars series. This one has gotten a lot of hate from fans, but we have been mostly liking it so far. Some of the acting feels weak, but otherwise, I have been impressed with some of the choices Disney made.
Crafts
I am still working hard on my blue hexagon cardigan I am making for myself. I was hoping to have it done by this post, but the cuff on the sleeve took so much longer than I expected, and I still have to make the cuff on my other sleeve. I did spend a couple of hours last night weaving in some ends though, so I have been making progress!
Music
I will be seeing Band of Horses in two weeks, so I have still been listening to most of their old music. I have forgotten how many songs I know and love from them.
Blog Recap
After the last Sunday Post blog recap, this one feels so sad to me. But, I still managed a few posts during the last few weeks!
