Happy Sunday everyone! If you were to look at the books I’ve read in the last two weeks, you’d think I’ve had a very productive two weeks. But, I am reaching the last three weeks of the school year, and I am BURNT OUT. I have a stack of papers to grade that feels impossible to tackle, but I am trying my best to truck along.
Because of all this stress, I have been falling back on reading more than usual. As I usually do when I am stressed, I fell back on romances. I always have to laugh when I think about how two years ago, reading romances was a rarity. Now, after two years of grad school, I have fallen in love with romances. They have become more than an escape to me, and they are now my number one genre to read.
The Sunday Post is a blog news meme hosted @ Caffeinated Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week on your blog and showcase books and things we have received as well as share news about what is coming up on your blog for the week ahead.

Books
Never Ever Getting Back Together – I was pleasantly surprised by this book. I requested this on Netgalley a couple years ago, but I finally got around to it last week. I am a BIG fan of the reality TV show plot lines, so that was an automatic win for me. Full review will be coming soon… ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Butcher & Blackbird – This book was NOT it for me. I will admit I have not read a lot of dark romance in the past (the Mindf*ck Series is probably the only I’ve read actually), but I’m not sure if the genre is just not for me or if it was specifically this book. I just was not impressed with the writing or the characters at all (and can we PLEASE stop using nicknames every single time we talk to each other). ⭐️⭐️
Funny Story – EMILY HENRY DOES NOT DISAPPOINT. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Not only is Emily Henry an extremely talented writer, but she can make me feel so many things in her romances. I also saw a review that Funny Story was so New Girl coded, and I couldn’t get Nick Miller out of my head the entire time. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (Check out my updated Emily Henry rankings on Instagram).
Just For the Summer – Just for the Summer was my first book from Abby Jimenez, and it did not disappoint! I have been told many times in the past that I would enjoy Jimenez’s stories, and I am glad I started with this one! It hit my feelings so many times. I will definitely be reading some of her previous works in the future. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
At First Spite – I finished this book about ten minutes before I started putting together this blog post. There were a lot of parts of this book I really enjoyed, but there were also some things that held me back from giving this five stars. While the initial mentions of “monster smut” was funny, I grew tired of the constant references. But the MMC?! He was swoon-worthy, and I loved him. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
TV Shows
Game Changer – I have recently caught up on the latest season of Game Changer on Dropout. I have such a love for the Dimension 20 and Dropout casts that I will forever watch their shows.
IN PROGRESS
Books
The Great Gatsby – 35%. I am reading The Great Gatsby with my Juniors right now. I always love teaching this book every year, but the beginning is really hard to get the kids excited. Now that we FINALLY know more about Gatsby, I can see them starting to get more interested. This book really goes from zero to 100 QUICK.
If You Knew My Name – 10%. This novel in verse comes out at the end of the month, and while I am not very far yet, I am enjoying it. Ever since I taught Long Way Down at the beginning of this year, I have been wanting to read more novels in verse.
TV Shows
Parks and Rec – I am now on Season 6 of my Parks and Rec rewatch! We are closing in on the finish line!
Game of Thrones – My friends and I are still dedicating our Wednesdays to rewatching the entire series of Game of Thrones…We still have been consistently watching two episodes a week, and we finished episodes 7 + 8 this week!
Music
This song has been in my head non-stop for the past two weeks. I walk down the hallway singing “I’m working late…cuz I’m a singerrr” all day long. I am officially obsessed with Sabrina Carpenter. 😍

I have actually had a successful two weeks on the blog! I think April has been the month I have posted the most, and I am hoping to keep the ball moving this May.

I have had a few Pangobooks orders arrive, as well as two pre-orders from Amazon! Funny Story and Truly, Madly, Deeply both came in on their release dates this month. The other three books were from Pangobooks!

I also received my special edition versions of Elle Kennedy’s Briar U series. I have the special edition versions of the Off-Campus series, so I just had to get these ones to match! They look so good on my bookshelves!!
I hope everyone has enjoyed their first week of May 💖 Let me know in the comments what your plans are for this month 🙂
Until next time, xx

We’ve been selling a lot of Funny Story at the B&N I work at – I loved New Girl, so that comparison makes me want to read it!
Oh, I remember those last weeks before school lets out, when the kids are antsy and the teachers are exhausted and everyone is ready to be done. I was usually grading and madly running rehearsals for the end-of-year play. I loved the moments when the kids got excited about a book. That and watching someone bloom as a writer were among my favorite parts of teaching English. It’s clear you love what you do, too. You’ll get through these last few weeks, and hopefully you will have a bit of time to rest and recharge before you jump into planning for next year.
I’m so excited to hear you enjoyed Funny Story! I’ve already got access to a print copy but I really want to listen to the audiobook because Julia Whelan narrates it and that means I have to be patient and wait! 😭
