Ipsy Bag Review: June ’16

I recently have taken a break from Ipsy for a few months but decided to try it out again for the summer! The bag is $10 a month with free shipping (in the US; I’m not sure about anywhere else). Every month they send you a makeup bag and 5 sample products from different companies.

I’m a little mad at myself for not waiting another month because I just do not like the look of the bag of the month. The graffiti just isn’t my style and it’s my least favorite bag I’ve ever received from Ipsy.

The first two products I received were a Vasanti Cosmetics “Kajal Eyeliner” in black and a Royal & Langnickel Crease/Smudge brush. I was not super excited about the eyeliner because I rarely use pencil eyeliners; I maybe use them once a month. So this product was a bust for me. The brush on the other hand is wonderful. It’s soft on the face and also picks up any type of product. I also haven’t had any problems with the bristles falling off.  It was nice to receive such a high quality brush.

The next item I received is from Cake Beauty and it’s called the “everything balm”. It supposedly does, well, everything! It’s supposed to moisturize skin, repair cuticles, seal split ends, brightens dark circles, and moisturizes lips. I have tried it on my lips and it does make them noticeably softer. I’m excited to experiment more with this product.

The last two products I received were the Dirty Little Secret Cosmetics “Illuminating Baked Highlighter” in the color Bellisima and the Balm “Meet Matt(e) Trimony” in the shade Matt Kumar. I LOVE the DLS highlighter. It shines so perfectly on my skin and gives me the perfect highlight. I never thought I’d love a more pink toned highlight but I do. I am a little disappointed with the Balm eyeshadow though. Below, are swatches, and the swatch on the left is how pigmented it was with one swipe, and the swatch on the right is several swipes. It took a lot of work to get color and the formula was extremely powdery.

Altogether, I give the bag a 3/6. I loved the highlighter, brush, and the everything balm, but everything else kind of disappointed me. I’m definitely hoping for a better bag next month. Do you guys get Ipsy bags? Do you want to get one? Let me know in the comments! xx

I want to try Ipsy because of the price point, but I’ve heard a ton of negative things so I’m wondering if it would be worth my while to try out another beauty subscription service thats a little more expensive. I used to get Birchboxes and I loved them!

I really want to try Birchbox because I’ve heard so many great things! I did like a couple of my Ipsy bags I’ve received in the past, so I’m hoping for some better luck over the next few months!

I agree, that bag is not the most attractive. Also, I find that some subscription services don’t have their inventory down yet. It’s disappointing to be a prt of a service that’s so hit or miss. But it sounds like you had some success this time around!
